iPad USB Power Adapter

Thursday 25 February 2010 @ 10:55 am

With all the latest gadgets coming in to the market there is one thing that remains the same they all need to be powered.  Now days USB is becoming the standard way for powering most gadgets.  Hence it was a good thing that Apple introduced a 10 Watt USB power adapter for iPad.  It is amongst the essential  iPad accessories.  This makes it very simple to charge your device.  You can just plug in your iPad to your wall socket and let it charge.

ipad accessory usb power adapterThe iPad 10 Watt USB Power Adapter has a six ft long cable.  The length is certainly useful when you want to charge the iPad from a distance.  Since it is taken for granted  that many people would want to use the iPad where they use their laptop.  It now becomes easy to sit in your favorite place with the iPad in easy reach of an electrical socket.

The cable of iPad is most likely to become the standard length of USB cable as it is for other popular Apple gadgets like iPod and iPhone.

The launch of iPad suggests there will be an explosion of alternative iPad accessories in the market from third party companies.  Since the iPad has a standard power connector,  patent issues don’t exist.  Hence, it is easy to create alternative versions of iPad accessories for official apple device users.

Belkin is a company which already makes many accessories for Apple products.  It is predicted that it will soon come up with power adapters, cases and connectors and other accesories for iPad.  Ingenious products could come out from third party manufacturers in the coming days and weeks but till then it is a game of wait and watch.

iPad vs Kindle comparison

Thursday 25 February 2010 @ 4:31 am

Now that the much awaited iPad has finally been launched by Apple, industry watchers have been wondering how Kindle, Amazons most popular  e-reader device will get affected by it.

Steve Jobs, celebrity CEO of Apple claims that the iPad is better for book reading aiming at and naming Kindle specifically.  “We’re gonna stand on their shoulders and go farther” is what Mr. Jobs has to say about Kindle.

The iPad is slated to release in April. First looks suggest it to be the same as an oversize iTouch.  It has a touch screen that is  9.7 inches in size.  It seems like a larger version of the iPhone.

iPad Kindle comparison

The iPad will allows online features like iBookstore.  This allows the user to download and purchase books, functioning in pretty much the same way as the iTunes store.  Five major publishing houses have already signed up for iBookstore.  These include Macmillan, Penguin, Harper-Collins, Hachette Book Group and Simon & Schuster. Although Random House, the biggest book publisher of the world was absent.  This means that many major titles will not be available at Apple’s e-book store for now at least.

Many e-Book readers will prefer the E-ink display of the Amazon Kindle in comparison to the LED back lit display of the iPad.  This is because it is easier to read for long periods of time since it is eye friendly.  Also, there are no other applications to distract you.  But the kindle does not have a touch screen and is unlike Apple iPad which supports multi-touch.

Another noticeable advantage that iPad has over Kindle is that iBooks allows a reader to flip pages.  It can support videos and other pictures.  This is quite a plus point in comparison to Kindle which is static.  Also, although Kindle allows users to subscribe to newspapers and magazines and has a PDF reader, 3G and a rudimentary web browser the iPad offers much more than an ordinary e-book reader.  The users of iPad can access email, iTunes App store, media players, Safari browser and games. It also has wifi and Bluetooth with 3G available in some models.

But the iPad stands to lose from Kindle owing to the fact that it has a battery life of just 10 hours whereas Kindle works for a week with wireless and for two weeks without it.

The iPad also has a serious flaw and this  is its lack of allowing multi tasking.  For a non-phone device not being able to run non current apps simultaneously seems to be a big limitation which needs to be rectified soon by Apple.

The Kindle is priced at $259 and Kindle DX at $489.  This includes 3G.  The iPad with Wi-fi is for only $499 for 16 GB, 32GB at $599 and 64GB at $699.  With  3G and WiFi  the iPad is priced at $629, $729, $829 for 16, 32 and 64 GB respectively.  You would also need to pay $15 for 250Mb & $30 for unlimited 3G data monthly.

In the midst of all this there are rumors floating that Amazon is exploring possibilities of providing free Kindles to its best customers to push up its sales.  Although the iPad seems promising it is really the consumers who will decide the fate of the Kindle. Hope you’d find this comparison of iPad vs Kindle useful in your buying decisions.

The iPad Revolution in Tablet PC

Saturday 20 February 2010 @ 11:58 am

Estimating a sweeping impact, vendors and analysts in the tablet PC industry believe that the Apple iPad could be well on its way to launch a new industry just like the iPod did with MP3 and the iPhone did with smart phones.  The iPad is predicted to invigorate the worldwide tablet PC market which is estimated to be around $1.3 billion US dollars.

Analysts feel that iPad will be the driving force in the tablet PC industry.  Apple has already revolutionized the smart phone and mp3 market.  The same can be expected with tablet PCs.  Researchers at ‘iSuppli’ estimate world wide sales of iPad to reach 7.10 million in 2010 and 20.10 million units in 2012.

The touch screen design of the iPad will convince customers that one does not need a keyboard for data entry and computing;  that you can actually use a tablet PC for data entry rather than a paper or pen.

Customers from construction sites are having a renewed interest in tablets. They feel that Apple is legitimizing the potential of tablet PCs.  It is also raising the bar on all that tablet customers expect.

iPad truly is the’ next big thing’ as it is one such  computer that does not require training.  No extra folders and final icons floating around, no inexplicable setup screens.  Its appearance will allow people to accomplish tasks with ease from enjoying to creating content and from playing to communicating.

Change is inevitable and it is happening now!  The iPad embraces solutions.  It puts music, photos, movies and documents into specialized task oriented databases along with a task oriented fully modal interface of iPhone.  This along with fabulous applications lets you do everything for pleasure and work.  It is a realization of ‘universal information appliance’.

Many people still find it baffling to manage Windows and Mac OS.  The iPhone interface works splendid with your kids and your grandma alike.  These people who find PCs to be cumbersome and complicated are embracing the iPhone.  Everyone will soon dive  into this new epoch of computing. T he iPhone invasion has started this transition.  The iPad will continue it.

Yes it will not happen overnight nevertheless it will pick up fast.  In a years time we are expecting Google to come out with something almost similar to iPad and sure enough you can expect I Mac and MacBook Pro to come out with something resembling iPad OS in the coming years.  We can look forward to smart instant search databases with the ability to store all documents with metadata.

No syncing, no complications, no hassles.  That’s the future with tablet PCs like the iPad.

Where can you buy an iPad?

Friday 19 February 2010 @ 4:51 am

We know everybody is waiting for the upcoming launch of iPad, and must be wondering where they can buy iPad and iPad accessories.  Well, as per a recent announcement from Apple, the iPad will follow sales model of iPhone during its launch period.  What that means is that iPad and Apple branded iPad accessories would be available for sale only through Apples direct sales channels and select retail locations which have Apple assistance.  And this comes with no bundling and zero discounting.

ipad best buy onlineRecently, speaking at Goldman Sachs annual technology conference, San Francisco, Apples Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook announced that iPad would launch in online education, retail & other direct sales but might also include Apple assisted sales by partners such as Best Buy. So as per the Apple sales strategy, they want to restrict the sale of the Apple iPad to Apple’s online store during the short honeymoon period. After the honeymoon period is over, Best Buy will carry Apple iPad and accessories, just like other Apple products.

This left room for suggestion that iPad sales could be offered by AT&T stores too who are the wireless partner for Apple in United States.  The iPad will also be offered by Apple’s premium resellers.

Cook revealed that he had been personally using iPad for close to 6 months and felt that once consumers experience iPad for the first time they will find it hard to buy a Netbook. He denigrated the Netbook calling them merely cheap laptops.

He claims the experience of using an iPad to be absolutely incredible adding that Apple can’t wait to start shipping the device He also claims the browsing, photo and email display of the iPad are the best available today!

Cook is not too concerned that iPad sales would cannibalize sales of other products of Apple like Mac or iPod touch.

We wonder if this selling strategy will leave third party sellers like Amazon, Small Dog, Power Max and Mac Mall to sell only iPad accessories and the add-ons. Will Apple be able to mass market iPad without third party channels is a question on everybody’s mind.  Meanwhile, Cook believes that the $499 iPad is at an incredible value!
